Who is Tamaken For?

Tamaken is designed for individuals at different stages of their professional journey who are interested in mental health and psychology:

  • Bachelor’s degree graduates seeking practical, hands-on experience

  • Master’s degree graduates aiming to deepen and refine their expertise

  • Job seekers exploring career opportunities in psychology and mental health
  •
  • Professionals from any field considering a career transition into psychology or to enhance their existing skills.

Why Tamaken? Tamaken provides participants with practical skills, industry insights, and expert mentorship to navigate the world of psychology in Oman. By immersing participants in real-world scenarios, the program offers a unique opportunity to understand the dynamics of psychology in the region, regardless of prior academic or professional experience in the field.  Whether you’re a graduate, a job seeker or a professional looking to shift your career path, Tamaken is your gateway to making a meaningful impact in mental health and well-being across Oman.

Tamaken bridges academic learning with professional application through structured, supervised practical training, ensuring participants are prepared to meet the demands of today’s mental health sector.

Theoretical Phase: Laying the Foundation for Excellence

The Tamaken program begins with a structured 12-week theoretical training phase, designed to provide participants with a strong foundation in psychology and mental health practices.

Through a combination of interactive lectures, case studies, and expert-led workshops, participants gain knowledge in:

  • Psychological theories and models

  • Mental health assessment and diagnosis

  • Ethics and professional practice

  • Evidence-based intervention strategies

  • Cultural considerations in mental health, with a focus on Oman and the GCC

A distinctive feature of Tamaken is the inclusion of weekly guest lectures from world-renowned psychologists, psychiatrists, educators, and behavioral health leaders, offering participants unparalleled insights into international trends and innovations in mental health care.

Developed and delivered by a faculty of local, regional, and global experts, the theoretical phase provides a standardized, practice-oriented learning experience that prepares participants to transition confidently into practical training.

Practicum Phase

The Practicum Phase of Tamaken is where learning transforms into applied skill. Following the theoretical component, participants enter supervised, real-world environments to develop the practical competencies essential for success in mental health care.

The Practicum Phase ensures Tamaken graduates are not only knowledgeable but also workplace-ready professionals, able to contribute effectively from day one in Oman’s and the GCC’s growing mental health sector.

  • Foundation Practicum: Bachelor’s graduates undertake 4 weeks of supervised experience, providing early career exposure to clinical protocols, client interaction, and case documentation within established mental health services.

  • Advanced Practicum: Master’s graduates complete an intensive 24-week supervised placement, developing advanced capabilities in psychological assessment, case formulation, intervention planning, and direct client care.

Participants work alongside and learn from licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, and behavioral health specialists, gaining cross-sector exposure to diverse client groups and practice settings.
